In August 2009, Google invited web developers to test a new search architecture, codenamed "Caffeine", and give their feedback. In December 2017, Google began rolling out the change, having already done so for multiple websites. The change was a response to the continued growth in mobile usage, and a push for web developers to adopt a mobile-friendly version of their websites. In October 2016, Gary Illyes, a webmaster trends analyst with Google, announced that the search engine would be making a separate, primary web index dedicated for mobile devices, with a secondary, less up-to-date index for desktop use. In 2012, Google changed its search indexing tools to demote sites that had been accused of piracy. ĭespite Google search's immense index, sources generally assume that Google is only indexing less than 5% of the total Internet, with the rest belonging to the deep web, inaccessible through its search tools. Users can also activate " SafeSearch", a filtering technology aimed at preventing explicit and pornographic content from appearing in search results. Additionally, Google indexes some file types, being able to show users PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, certain Flash multimedia content, and plain text files. For websites that are currently down or otherwise not available, Google provides links to cached versions of the site, formed by the search engine's latest indexing of that page. Google indexes hundreds of terabytes of information from web pages. As of mid-2016, Google's search engine has begun to rely on deep neural networks. Data about the frequency of use of search terms on Google can be openly inquired via Google Trends and have been shown to correlate with flu outbreaks and unemployment levels, and provide the information faster than traditional reporting methods and surveys. In 2012, Google introduced a Knowledge Graph semantic search feature.Īnalysis of the frequency of search terms may indicate economic, social and health trends. In 2011, Google introduced " Google Voice Search" to search for spoken, rather than typed, words. It was originally developed in 1996 by Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Scott Hassan. The main purpose of Google Search is to search for text in publicly accessible documents offered by web servers, as opposed to other data, such as images or data contained in databases. Google Search also provides many different options for customized searches, using symbols to include, exclude, specify or require certain search behavior, and offers specialized interactive experiences, such as flight status and package tracking, weather forecasts, currency, unit, and time conversions, word definitions, and more. The order of search results returned by Google is based, in part, on a priority rank system called " PageRank". Additionally, it is the most searched and used search engine in the entire world. It is the most-visited website in the world. Handling more than 3.5 billion searches per day, it has a 92% share of the global search engine market. Google Search (also known simply as Google or ) is a search engine provided and operated by Google.

Selahcovered the song in 2006 on the album Bless the Broken Road: The Duets Album featuring a duet vocal from Crittenden. Also released as a single, Selah's version peaked at number five on the Hot Christian Songs charts. This album was not released, due to a dispute between the band and its label. Since then, many artists have recorded the song including Melodie Crittenden, Geoff Moore, Selah, Jamie Slocum, Carrie Underwood, Buddy Greene, and Rascal Flatts. Sons of the Desert recorded its own version of the song, for a planned second album on Epic Records that would have been released in 1998. The popular song Bless the Broken Road, which was recorded by an assortment of country artists before Rascal Flatts took it to the top of the charts in 2005, serves as the inspiration. Michael McCall of New Country magazine thought that Hummon's rendition was the best track on the album. His rendition includes backing vocals from Hanna and Matraca Berg. One year later, Hummon covered the song for his debut album All in Good Time for Columbia Records. The optional stand-offs prior to larger battles are always tense, with the enemy feigning and yelling while the player waits for the giveaway movement of feet to release to their fatal blow. The developers have unashamedly taken elements that work from other games, such as Far Cry's enemy base encounters, The Witcher''s world-building, and the tight sword play from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice which focuses on patience and timing rather than a flurry of button mashing.Īnd never before has a game looked quite so cinematic while blending in open-world action gameplay. Its roots in that war, which devastated China and Korea, are problematic to say the least.īut putting aside these failures, Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best open-world action games of this console generation. The false narrative about samurai chivalry and honour, or bushido, which was employed as propaganda to soldiers in World War 2 has persisted, evidently, to this day. This would be neither here nor there if it didn't carry such cultural baggage. The reality, better examined in films such as Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins, Hara Kiri: Death of a Samurai, and Kurosawa's later films such as Ran, was that samurai were a cruel and ruthless ruling class who'd sooner cut down a peasant or merchant for a minor - or even perceived - slight, than wander from village to village making sure they're safe and well. Even in Seven Samurai - perhaps the most defining rehabilitation of samurai in postwar Japan - the samurai are at least paid for their troubles. In Ghost of Tsushima, Jin is more than happy to get involved in peasants meagre affairs and tribulations which anyone with a cursory knowledge of Japanese history will tell you is ridiculous. That lack of engagement with the history, and even with Kurosawa who had regrets about his role in reinventing the myth of samurai, shows. The game has more in common with the sober and melodramatic 2003 film The Last Samurai than the often funny - dudes rock - vibe of Kurosawa's early samurai films which brimmed with a swagger that was immediately seized upon by western directors for remakes such as The Magnificent Seven. Aside from characters being in Japan, wielding swords, and the aforementioned "Kurosawa mode" there's little that's recognisable. Yet it appears they also seem to know little about the films of Kurosawa. The developers have openly admitted they know little about the history of Japan and were working purely from the inspiration they found in Kurosawa films. The setting only needs a brief introduction because the plot is merely a serviceable vehicle for the gameplay to unfold. Set in in 1274 during the first attempted invasion of Japan by the Mongolian Empire, Ghost of Tsushima follows Samurai Jin Sakai as he fights back the invading force, often resorting to "dishonourable" stealth methods. To be fair to studio Sucker Punch, this mode does look incredible and they have, in general, created a beautiful looking game. If you're in any doubt to how much the game owes to Kurosawa - the Japanese film maker behind Seven Samurai, Ran, Rashoman and many other masterpieces - it actually includes a "Kurosawa mode" which switches the colourscale to a grey palate complete with grainy crackles. Engines will improve energy recharge rates for the weapons and shields and reduce cargo inertia. Do you want an agile fighter? Increase the wings every chance you get and you’ll see not only can the ship hold more front weapons but its agility increase. It makes for impressive viewing in the later stages, but you decide the exact “path” the Darkstar One takes. The ship physically transforms with each improvement so it grows bigger and better as you go along. When you have enough you can improve the ship in three areas, hull, wings or engines. Depending on which level you’re climbing to will determine how many of these green crystal artefacts you need. There are 100 artefacts in total (almost a GTA hidden packages deal) with the location of each displayed on the navigation chart. Hidden (to a degree) in asteroids are artefacts which can be absorbed by our ship for upgrades. The next is some combat with the casual pirate scum and finally a little trade mission.Īfter the last tutorial we also get to secretly speak to our guide and he informs us that the Darkstar One is indeed very special. The first is more of simple flight and just getting to know your controls which aren’t hard to get the hang of but may just seem awkward. It’s a cool looking ship and is beautifully detailed in a black and yellow colour scheme.Īfter the initial movie we can take up three different tutorial assignments which ease us into the gameplay. How exactly our characters dad managed to come across this deadly alien craft is never really explained but I wasn’t going to argue. We start the game straight away with the Darkstar One as our ship which was left to Kayron from his late father. Seen by some as the “successor” to Microsoft’s Freelancer space action adventure, Darkstar One delivers more depth in some areas but sorely lacks in other perhaps more crucial parts.ĭarkstar One with the Shield Boost ability It's a shame, because the entire album is good with the exception of this song, and it happens to be towards the very end of the album. However, he does misfire on "Roses" which is easily the albums lowest point. It's amazing that over time I've grown to really like this song, even if I don't understand a damn thing. Mos speaks in Spanish for the entire song, and the tracks sounds much more like a love song that a rap song. One example of this working is on "No Hay Nada Mas". Mos isn't afraid to take risks (as he proved on The New Danger) whether they pay off or not. One thing I love about Mos is that he isn't concerned with being "the best rapper alive" or any of the other trivial titles that all other rappers are concerned with. If anybody needed a reminder the Mos Def is one of the best lyricists of all time in hip-hop, this song (and album in general) is it. "Style and state radiate/love power slay the hate/truth killer flakey face/players say it to their face/ain't afraid to major straight/grace at the table straight/flow greatest like the greatest lakes/capes all greatest states/quiet water major waves". Nothing is simple about the wordplay he follows that up with though. "Peace before everything/god before anything/love before anything/real before everything/home before anyplace". It's a very powerful song, partly because of the message, but also because of Mos' delivery. "Priority" is one of the most spiritual songs on the album, as Mos outlines what our priorities should be in life. Mos has always been one of the most humble and honest rappers there is, and that makes this album very easy to relate to. The whole album is very down to earth, but uplifting at the same time. Mos simply raps about the high unemployment rate and the day to day munadane life of working a 9-5, living paycheck to paycheck to keep the lights on. Flash produces "Worker's Comp" which is the perfect song for the times we are in. The greatness of Mos isn't limited to the Madlib tracks though. Madlib produces 4 of the tracks on this album (Wahid, Pretty Dancer, Revelations, and the Slick Rick assisted Auditorium), and it's no surprise that these are 4 of the best tracks on the album. Most of the tracks have Middle Eastern influences regardless of who produces the track. Mos samples guitars (and the chorus) from an old Turkish song, and the rest of the album follows the theme of using Middle Eastern instruments throughout this album. The opening track "Supermagic" hits like a hammer. However, the production on this album is without question the best production since Black on Both Sides. Mos Def has always been a very talented rapper, and the strength of his albums has always been his lyrics. It's been a long time since I've heard an album of this caliber, and I still can't think of a better rap album to come out since this album was released nearly 3 years ago. It's been a long This album deserves a 12 out of 10 if I were basing my score on the relativity to other rap albums over the past 5 years. This album deserves a 12 out of 10 if I were basing my score on the relativity to other rap albums over the past 5 years. Click the "Edit" tab, and click "Select block". It's a lot of code to select, so to speed things up HxD has a select option to automatically select the block of code you want, using the beginning and ending offsets. Highlight offest 0 to 3A6F3 and delete it using backspace. If you highlight more than one byte HxD will show the first and last offest you've selected at the bottom of the window, under a "Block" label.įirst we are going to delete the unnecessary code at the beginning of the file. By default it automatically highlights offset 0 when you first open a file, the very first byte in the file. In HxD's case, it's in the bottom left corner. Usually hex-editing programs show somewhere the offset (the "location" in the file) of the byte you've highlighted. We are going to delete the extra data this part is tricky so read carefully. Because of this extra data it's unreadable by dedicated Game Maker-ripping programs (one of which we are going to use in a bit).įor this step you're going to need a hex editor (I am using HxD ). Remember our ".data" file? That's actually a data.win file wrapped in extra lines of data. Hyper Light Drifter was made with Game Maker, and generally games made with this engine have their data stored in a "data.win" file. HLD is a great game in many ways and definitely worth playing through, although some of it´s accolades are undeserved imo.If you don't care about them not being organized, then you don't have to read any further if you don't want to because I'm gonna cover the harder way next. I would strongly suggest taking another route. Then the rest of the game was a complete cakewalk. I started out in the west area and that place and boss was tough without any upgrades. The pacing and difficulty curve can also be absoutely abhorrent. Then swing my sword again from the exact same location and then get a hit.Įnemies and projectiles would teleport in weird angles mid dash to my new location resulting in a hit. Sometimes I could stand right next to an object or enemy, swing my sword, see it go through my target and not get a hit. In a game where one mistake can result in a stunlock straight to death, that´s a cardinal sin.Īnd before people bombard me with "this isn´t a button masher" or "there´s a stamina bar", I know and it´s not about that. Multiple times I would press a button and nothing would happen. If you decide to make a Dark Souls-ey game, you must have great controls, which HLD certainly doesn´t. It also feels very unpolished in some key areas. The general exploring and combat is good and satisfying. The music fine and fitting, although I don´t get the hype some people throw at it. The graphics and artstyle is great and beautiful to look at. Just finished this yesterday after hearing it´s praises for years now. It got me with a good nostalgia reference in the flourish after difficult encounters (with a classic sega genesis game: Light Crusader). I make the Samurai Jack comparison because it often feels very meditative/considered both in the world and in combat. It feels very good to press just enough buttons to weave through combat and take out your foes. The implementation of the guns was also really fun and smooth, I really enjoyed the shotgun and the sniper. Another thing was the hitstun could be a bit bothersome and getting body blocked by enemies! Let me dodge through them god damnit! It did manage to balance enemy quantity with the tools you have available and was generally quite well put together in terms of encounters. I liked that the game demanded you be calm and not mash buttons but sometimes it felt a little too strict. In hectic moments a button tap too soon can spell doom for you because of the methodical nature of the gameplay. The combat can be a bit unforgiving in control. |
